Location of the first contact between General McArthur on the west side
of the Grand River and the Six Nations warriors and other British defenders on the east side
McArthur’s raids along the Grand River November 1814
Follow the path of McArthur’s 700 cavalry made up of Kentucky and Ohio raiders as they came through Burford, to the edge of the Grand River where they were confronted by warriors, militia and some regular British troops. Could McArthur’s raid during the War of 1812 been the turning point of the war? If he decided to stay in this area and build fortifications would the Grand River have been the western border with the United States today? What effect would this possibility have had on the Haudenosaunee/Six Nations/Iroquois?
